How to create online training courses for busy employees

Let’s face it. It’s a busy world out there. Staff training, while important, often gets pushed to the side as deadlines, hectic work schedules, and job stress take over. Over-worked employees haven’t got the time or energy for professional development. They’re too busy trying to tick off everything on their to-do list. Heavy workloads leave staff unable to focus on training courses. Long training seminars are unrealistic, adding to stress levels as employees have to spend time away from their desks. It’s important to develop training that is accessible and manageable for employees. Give your staff the power to better themselves without causing a mental breakdown.

Tips to create online training courses

Online training courses must be both engaging and manageable. If the thought of powering through a huge training manual causes stress and anxiety, your staff aren’t going to learn a thing. Rather, create achievable training that’s easy to deliver. Online training, compiled into bite-size manuals, allows staff to fit it into their busy schedules. We’ve got some tips to help you put together and distribute training for busy employees using OnRamp:

Utilise microlearning

Forget about long training manuals or seminars. Busy employees don’t have the time to spend half their day sitting in training. They’re also unlikely to retain as much information if they’re too busy thinking about their workload. Specified training resources, which are convenient and easy to access quickly, are more beneficial. Creating a library of microlearning manuals allows employees to access the information they need when they need it. A short, two-minute instructional video is more useful than a long-winded handbook. OnRamp’s training platform gives you the tools to do this. Create short, engaging training manuals for staff to access as they need it.

Give staff control

A heavy workload can be overwhelming, leaving employees feeling stressed and helpless. Online training gives them the power over their own learning path. With OnRamp, your staff can log in to the portal and access training manuals as they wish. The platform can be accessed when convenient. Giving your employees the power to develop their skills and knowledge. By creating online course maps, your staff can map their progress and focus on relevant skills. Training can even be viewed more than once if employees need a refresher.

Create a positive training environment

It’s important to create a positive learning experience for your staff. A busy schedule can lead to frustration and discouragement. A positive training experience helps counteract negativity and build morale. Develop an optimistic learning culture with your online training courses. Think about the tone of your training. A conversational tone and relatable graphics are welcoming and inviting. Make use of calming colours to put your employees at ease. Positive feedback and recognising achievements will help give employees a sense of accomplishment. Users receive certificates upon completing training manuals when using the OnRamp platform. These certificates are an immediate acknowledgement of a job well done.

Set realistic deadlines

Pressuring your team to complete training within tight deadlines only adds to their stress. Stress impacts negatively on learning ability and job performance. Rather, offer them flexible training. Online training that can be accessed at any time. Make sure your employees have plenty of time to complete modules at their own pace. Give your employees the opportunity to set their own goals and manage their training. Promote the use of online project management tools and apps. These tools can help your team stay organized and on top of their training.

Create a solid online support system

Busy employees with hectic work schedules can often feel isolated and overwhelmed. Create online support systems for your staff in the form of forums and social media groups. This gives your staff the chance to connect with their peers. Forums allow staff to bounce ideas, ask questions, and voice any concerns they may have. Interacting with fellow employees also builds a sense of community. Employees will feel less overwhelmed if they have the space to share their thoughts. This is beneficial for online training as it gives staff a place where they can discuss the training if they are having difficulties.

Focus on the essentials

Lengthy training courses filled with irrelevant information are not beneficial for busy employees. They don’t have the time to sift through the training to find the relevant information. Online training courses must be short and to the point. Focus on one topic at a time. Deliver the information with accessible, engaging content. The use of graphics, multimedia, and videos all add to your content. Use infographics to simplify complex information, making it easier to comprehend. Topic-specific training gives employees the tools to build their skills where needed. Shorter manuals are also easier to fit into a chaotic schedule.

Staff training should build and empower your employees, not add stress to their lives. With OnRamp, you can use these tips to create short, content-rich training manuals for your staff to access as they need. Employees can manage their training on the portal and stay up-to-date with the latest information. Do you want a skilled team of employees? Get started with OnRamp today. The LIV Campaign: Our partnership with an inspiring organisation

Here at OnRamp, we’re passionate about the community. There is no greater cause than helping the future of our country by helping its people. We’re convinced skills development and a solid foundation will go a long way to giving people the tools they need to be successful. A South Africa charity organisation, LIV Village, has inspired us to get involved and do our part for the community.

Getting to know LIV Village

KwaZulu Natal couple, Tich and Joan Smith founded LIV Village in 2001. They had the vision to create a supportive community for orphaned children in South Africa. The LIV Village is a model centred on providing a nurturing environment for vulnerable children to grow, giving them the foundation to thrive. They believe in a self-sustainable approach. The village provides a family environment, education, holistic health care, and a true sense of community. Not only is the LIV model aimed at being ECO-friendly, but it gives support to the surrounding communities as well in the form of skills development and job creation.

The LIV Campaign

Our LIV Campaign saw the beginning of our involvement with this inspirational organisation. The campaign is aiming to raise a sizeable donation for LIV Village. We’re donating R1 for every ‘like’ our Facebook Page receives. We’ve set a target and with every ‘like’ we get one step closer to the goal of our campaign. We’re appealing to everyone to open up their Facebook app and turn OnRamp’s thumbs up blue. Supporting a great cause has never been easier. LIV Village is a motivating force for our nation and we want to help them grow countrywide.

OnRamp gets involved

We aren’t stopping with our campaign. We’re taking every opportunity to get involved with helping LIV Village. We recently participated in their first golf day. Held on the 9th of February this year, the day was a roaring success. We sponsored a hole on the course and the team had a blast out in the sunshine. At our hole, we provided mini Bheki’s burgers, chips, and shooter-shakes (strawberry and chocolate milkshakes in shooter glasses).

We’re excited about the prospect of growing our relationship with such an awe-inspiring initiative. The LIV Village is truly inspiring and we look forward to the next opportunity to get involved.

You can also get involved with the click of a button. Head over to our Facebook Page and ‘like’ and ‘share’ our Page today.

Mobile learning is on the rise

The world today is a driven, technology-based society determined on bettering themselves. Any company wanting to be at the top of their game would be foolish to overlook the benefits of providing their employees with training. And by training, we don’t mean boring seminars that put half the people to sleep. No. We’re talking about versatile, engaging training. Training that is accessible anywhere, at any time. That’s right. We’re talking about mobile learning. Online training platforms, such as OnRamp, are the way of the future.

Why mobile learning?

There are more mobile devices on the planet than there are people (and that number is well into the billions). The chance of an employee not having a smartphone is pretty slim. The first place people look when searching for information is their mobile device. Ask someone a complicated question and what do they do? They whip out their smartphone and browse the mighty Google – all the knowledge in the world at the push of a button. The traditional way of learning is rapidly giving way to mobile learning. People want to be able to access knowledge with ease. Staff would rather learn on-the-go in their own time than sit through a long seminar. Seminars can be ineffective as employees aren’t compelled to actively take part. Whereas, with mobile learning, they are engaging with the content.

Mobile learning empowers employees

The time has come for the rise of the Millennials. We are fast approaching an age where Millennials make up the majority of the working population. The workplace is full of driven people who want to be the best they can be. These people rely on their mobile devices for direct access to information. Employees, Millennials, in particular, seek employment which offers training and development. They want to increase their skills. They want to be able to do so as and when they need – introducing the desire for mobile learning. Today’s population does everything via their mobile device. They chat to the person next to them with WhatsApp. Find recipes for dinner on Pinterest. They even read books on their tablets. Mobile devices are an integral part of society. It’s only logical that training is accessible through mobile learning.

The impacts of mobile learning

Why should your business follow the trend of mobile learning? This is a no-brainer. Mobile learning provides a platform for companies to empower their staff through continuous training. Training no longer needs to be condensed into one session. It can be organised into bite-sized, topic-specific manuals. Information is better retained when delivered in many small sessions. And with the use of various multimedia, it is engaging and interesting. In fact, mobile learning can increase employee productivity by as much as 40%. Now which business wouldn’t want that?

How can OnRamp help you utilise mobile learning?

OnRamp provides its users with an online training platform. Your business can use the platform to manage all its training and content. With the platform, you can organise your training into online training guides and send to employees. The platform is 100% cloud-based. Your content is accessible anywhere, at any time – even with a mobile device! Employees can seamlessly switch to the smartphone or tablet and pick up their training where they left off.

Do you want to empower your staff through skills development? Do you want a simple platform to do it from? Contact OnRamp today to get started. Mobile learning for everyone.

The connection between training and employee performance

At OnRamp, we believe upskilling your staff not only benefits your bottom line but promotes employee confidence and empowerment, leading to an improved long-term performance in the workplace. A business who invests in their greatest assets (that’s your employees, by the way) will always be at the top of their game.

Why training improves performance

In today’s society, career development is important to employees. Millennials, in particular, are looking for jobs that will enable them to learn new skills and improve themselves. A happy employee works harder and performs at a higher level than an unhappy one. No company wants a dejected workforce. By developing your team members through training you are helping them define their goals and career path within the company. It’s no secret, people who know and love what they do, do it well.

Training enhances job knowledge, skills, and ability

This is a no-brainer. Training results in employees gaining the necessary knowledge and skills they need to perform their job. An employee who is knowledgeable about what they do will feel more comfortable and confident in their job and perform at a higher standard than an employee who has no training or knowledge. Investing in your employees by providing them training also helps to improve their attitude towards their work, which is an important factor for boosting performance. A good attitude equals a good work ethic!

Increased employee satisfaction

Employees who have a better understanding of the workings of a company and their role within it generally have a higher level of job satisfaction. A satisfied employee has higher self-esteem and pride in their work. Offering your employees training also helps enhance morale in the workplace. When people feel that they are a part of an organisation they work harder and perform better.

Create a positive commitment to the company

Successful training provides accurate and relevant information to an employee’s specific job. It is a key component in employee commitment and performance. Offering your staff the opportunity to learn and grow prevents them from feeling stagnant in their role. A company that promotes positivity and support through training will retain their employees for longer. Training also inspires brand culture which increases loyalty and commitment. Loyal employees are hard workers and invested in their jobs.

Invest in your employees

Employees who receive regular training and feedback perform at a higher level to meet the increased expectations that come with a rise in knowledge. When your employees feel like you are investing in their future with the company they are more likely to work harder. Remember, your staff are the lifeforce of your company, making them feel valued can only ever benefit your business.

There is no downside to providing continuous staff training. Knowledgeable employees have greater skill and ability and perform to a higher standard. Training doesn’t have to be boring or complicated. With OnRamp, training your staff is a piece of cake. The online training platform allows training manuals to be easily created and accessed by staff. This ensures training can be convenient and ongoing for all levels of staff.

Online learning strategies: Tips for success

Online learning is a rising trend in both the educational system and the workplace. It is not uncommon for employers to deliver new content to their staff via online training platforms instead of setting up seminars or conferences. Online learning is an easily accessible and favourable method of training.

Strategies for online learning

Online learning is not necessarily an easier way to learn, just a more convenient one. It can actually be harder than sitting in a classroom or seminar because you are ultimately the one responsible for your learning. It’s up to you to review the study materials and facilitate how best to assimilate the information. Follow these simple strategies to ensure the highest level of success:

Determine your learning style

The benefit of online learning is that the materials can be presented in a variety of ways, from videos to graphs to pictures to text. You can take advantage of this by determining which style of learning suits you best and then tailoring your studies to that style. There are four types of learners; visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic.

Time-management is key

One of the biggest considerations in successful online learning is being able to manage your own time. There’s no appointed time to attend a class, making it your own responsibility to set study time aside from work to go through and complete the course material yourself.

Make sure you have reliable internet access

Online learning, as the name suggests, requires internet access. Without it, you won’t be able to retrieve the online training material or stay up-to-date with any changes. Remember to save your work continuously to ensure nothing gets lost due to technical glitches.

Have a dedicated workspace

Whether you study best in your living room or your office, it’s important to find a study space that is quiet, organized, and distraction-free. Considering turning off your phone and social media during dedicated study time to avoid interruptions.

Participate in online discussions

Engaging in online forums and connecting with peers is beneficial to the learning process. It allows for the discussion of new ideas and creates a sense of community which lends itself to the desire to succeed. Discussing the online training material also helps with better retention of that newly learned knowledge.

Identify your goals

To achieve your online learning goals you need to start by identifying them. Once you know what you’re working towards, you will be able to put steps in place to ensure you stay focused on the end result.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

While it’s always constructive to search for your own solution when you come across content you don’t understand, also don’t hesitate to ask for help if you can’t find any answers. The purpose of online learning is to acquire knowledge, so ask as many questions as you can to learn as much as possible.

If you keep these tips in mind while tackling your next online learning course, you are sure to set yourself up for success. If you haven’t yet discovered the benefits of online learning, then head over to the OnRamp online training platform to find out all you need to know.

Online training, skills development and why it’s so important.

In this day and age, businesses are increasingly moving away from the traditional methods of training and leaning more towards using online training and skills development. Online training is the teaching of skills and knowledge through an electronic-based medium using modern technology such as computers and the internet rather than face-to-face-in-a-classroom structures.

Why should your business employ online training?

Online training and skills development are highly versatile and greatly beneficial to both your business and your employees. The online training process is continuous and is advantageous to all your staff regardless of their level of experience. Take a look at a few benefits of online training and why you should incorporate these in your day-to-day business practices:

The benefits of online training

Convenience and flexibility: Employees can learn from any location with a computer or mobile device that has an internet connection, enabling them to go at their own pace to ensure they absorb the information sufficiently. Refresher online courses are also a great way to increase the probability of your employees remembering the skills they have learned. In addition, training online allows for more self-directed learning which has proved to empower employees. This leads to increased engagement and confidence, which goes a long way to improving performance and productivity. A definite plus for your business.

Ease of accessibility and scalable nature: New ideas and training modules can easily be shared with a large number of employees without having to arrange a time for everyone to get together. This makes it highly accessible to your employees and keeps the whole business up to date when new procedures and processes are introduced.

Retain information: It eliminates the messy process of note-taking, instead, providing all the information in an easily accessible online format and the use of videos in the learning process has shown to help improve retention of information.

Personalise the learning experience: Online training allows employees to complete it in a manner which is conducive for their learning styles. They also benefit from receiving feedback straight away, without the lengthy process of manual evaluation of work.

Easily Measurable: The added bonus of online training is that it is quantifiable, and your business can keep track of the progress of your staff as well as the training itself, allowing for adjustments to be made continuously.

The importance of online training and skills development in your business is endless and ultimately benefits both you as the employer and your employees. It helps your business create a better quality and effectiveness of training at an affordable cost that is easily accessible and learnable while promoting confidence in your employees. A knowledgeable employee is a great asset to any business. Get your business set up with online training today!
